I received an answer to my trouble ticket. I've followed their guidance and will see if it helps. I've copied their comments underneath for others to read as some of the suggestions I think could be followed in advance to proactively avoid crashes. I run Win 10 Pro x64;

Hello Clean,

Thank you for contacting the Wargaming Customer Support Team regarding your client issue.

We are sorry to hear this is happening to you and would like to help you solve this matter as fast as possible. As a first attempt to do this, please check out the most common solutions to this kind of situation:

1. Follow the steps provided in each of the Support articles listed below:
- Start the game in
Safe mode.
Delete the Cache. To erase the game cache, press Windows + R; then, paste the following in the window that pops up:
%Temp%\wargaming.net\wowp\\; finally, delete the cache folder.
2. Follow the steps from the Safe mode article, and instead of using "Launch the game in safe mode", pick the option below it: Launch the game with reset graphics settings.
3. Run an integrity check of the game files:
- Open the Game Launcher > Settings > Support > CHECK
4. Disable the game mode in Windows. In order to know how to do this, please check the following article:
How To Disable Game Mode In Fall Creators Update – Windows 10
5. Disable Full Screen Optimization: this can be done with a right click on the game's .exe file -> Properties -> Compatibility

Should none of the steps above work, please send us a
WGCheck report so that we may investigate further.  Furthermore, we would like to see the logs corresponding to that game session; you will be able to find them by opening the World of Warplanes game folder and double clicking on the file called toLogs. Once in the logs folder, please check the file names (logs are named according to the date and time of creation) and send us the appropriate one(s).

NOTE: WGCheck reports listing mods will not be considered. Make sure the issue persists with no mods and with a fresh game client installation.

We hope the initial troubleshooter did the trick and that you continue to enjoy the game as much as possible. If any other questions or issues arise, or this situation unfortunately persists, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Best of luck in your endeavours and battles!

Best regards

Good luck with that - WG check usually spends time collecting all sorts of data and then tells you the problem is you for running mods even when you've never touched anything like that.

I've had yet another blue screen with this game, quoting STOPCODE: BAD_POOL_ERROR

I reopened my trouble ticket the reply was as such after I had run their check tool;

Hello Clean,

Thank you for coming back to us.

Please make sure you add those files to your firewall exceptions and run the game again with safe mode:

wgc_api.exe, WorldOfWarplanes.exe, cef_browser_process.exe

In case you're still experiencing problems, please provide us again with the WGcheck report:

https://eu.wargaming.net/support/kb/articles/596

And don't forget to provide us the logs from the game (In the game folder simply run "Tologs" and then a new folder will appear and the logs should be there)

Enjoy the rest of your day.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us again.

Kind regards,

I'm not feeling very optimistic at this stage. Two of the three files were already excepted on my firewall and I don't run mods.

Hello! I'm sorry you're still having issues. Would you be able to PM me with any details and I will see what I can help with too. Just curiously have you recently or had these issues since the Windows April update? And have you checked the new feature that was introduced "Turn on Fast Startup" that is in the shutdown settings.

I've checked off that fast start up setting now. Not sure that is relevant but I have a 1TB SSD fast start up is not necessary and I do prefer a clean boot. Issues started after the mini update for attrition. Since then more often than not WoWp client does not close properly. The hangar will still occupy desktop when closing with ALT F4 and resident in active processes and still active when closed via menu. I have to go to Task Manager to terminate. I have added this to TT so they are aware.

No need for PM. Happy to discuss openly and share any fixes etc with community.

Most in game crashes have been resolved before last update. The only common errors remaining are chat crashes and respawn bug which I can workaround now.

The other issue would be performance, FPS is still below par considering my rig. Some maps have radical spikes from low to high FPS and I think these might be the cause of crashes in my opinion. BigWorld is a donkey of a game engine.

Seriously, a Triple A gaming company and a game that constantly crashes. Over 2 hour game play period I have usually 4 CTD's. My clan mates all suffer from the same problem. It is a game issue, not a user issue.

Please add your name to this thread if you suffer the same problems. Tickets are a waste of time. Lets have some acknowledgement from the developers and a timeline for fix.

on 29/12/2017 Clean started this topic to fix the problem with "crash game" , and 15 pages later we have the same still the same situation .

How many pages they need ...

As you go up tiers you have more planes in your hangar and more resources etc, the larger the collection of planes in your hangar, the more resources used by the game to leak.

so what do you mean if we get all the planes like you , so we just have to stop playing and rejoin wargaming staff ... ?

You can tell them i'll never give 1 cent of euro into this game , i still play for free : Good job wargaming !

Yeah I'm not sure if it will help either, but it was something I found suggested for that error type somewhere that some people had issues and fixed it by disabling and re-enabling that function. As for the chat window crashing but and performance there's little I can with that other than offer certain options to drop that will help stabilise FPS. Also try testing if you can set cpu affinity and if that might help a little with your FPS issues, I know it did for myself.

Re-join? Or join. If you look further along, i suggested selling certain aircraft you don't need to speed up the hangar loading issue someone mentioned. I feel I don't need to pass on your message as it seems self evident. But I hope you continue to thoroughly enjoy playing this game!

I tried that CPU affinity before. It was a hack that I used to use years ago with World of Tanks. I think on a lower spec PC it would be helpful but I've found no tangible gains. I use nVidia Inspector to limit my frame rate to 60fps. This I have found to reduce graphic lag because of the large fluctuation in FPS and I believe added stability. However each time nVidia updates their drivers which is frequent I have to redo this.

To reiterate WG need to throw some focus on this game. The game is fun but developing it on a shoestring is counter productive. BigWorld was generally acknowledged in World of Tanks as not being fit for purpose. WG has slowly but quite dramatically overhauled and replaced it. I would like to know soon whether WG will afford this game the same TLC and cross pollinate with the WoWp development team. Appointing you as CM is a welcome move and I am not going to slag you for being genuine and helpful but this should have happened 6 months ago at least. Progress has been slow and underwhelming and continuing to develop with BigWorld, if that is the plan, is a doomed strategy. You can put lipstick on a pig but I can only kiss it for so long (don't tell the wife!).

Free to play is a business model to make money. The game is free to a substantial proportion of people who I feel are free to give feedback and suggestions but cannot complain too bitterly. I and friends of mine have paid annual premium and bought a considerable sum in premium planes. I naturally feel more entitled to complain. My cohort is allowing the 'free to play' people to play for free. I'm paying the developers wages.

I am not a forum troll of which many reside here, we know who they are. I pay to play the game and enjoy it. BUT I am hugely frustrated with the lack of progress and lack confidence in the path of this project fueled by recent experiences in this game. The development team may be small but they would have made their bed to lie in when they bid for the franchise from WG. Again a big decision needs to be made with this game. Clearly more money needs to be thrown at it and in my view it will reap the rewards. I came to this game from Tanks which now looks beautiful and has a good engine but the balance is broken and match making is too spread. Planes is the opposite of this, generally good balance and limited matchmaking and the gold ammo is not a factor but the game UI and engine in particular is terrible.

Now I think it is better to work with you and help you make this game better. It is counter productive to slag you for failings in the past that are not of your doing and the tectonic movement of WG. As I have already said you appear to me have the game's interest at heart and you're polite. I hope for your sake and mine that upcoming developments are substantial and that there is no whitewashing.

Sorry for the ramble I'm on a bank holiday and just wanted to get stuff off my chest. I'm not a frequent forum visitor usually but I feel I have productive things to say rather than join a 3 page slanging match with a troll. On a side note I tried to promote this game in the World of Tanks forum but it was moved by an administrator. WoT has a huge player base that could seed this game without disrupting their community. A cross platform promotion for a free tank badge to grind and unlock planes at varied tier levels and vice versa could do no harm.

I would ask other forum members to give eekeeboo a chance. Don't shoot the messenger. Use him to try and rescue this game.

Please take the time to go back and read the full scope of what you are discussing. It may help you gather the full picture.

I am willing to do what I can to help everyone in the community also, currently focusing my attention on those who want to use my interaction proactively and constructively rather than negatively. Frustration though not desired, is in my opinion nice to see at times, as it shows passion and a sense of caring. The cross game promotion system was attempted before to little success (though it was how i found planes and got playing more!) There is a hope that I will be able to promote this game more and help with helpful individuals like yourself hopefully get to where I (and I presume, you) think we could be as a game and as a community.

Read the title of this thread :).

Came expecting people to be complaining about controlled flight into terrain :kamikaze:.

Realized that they were having computer issues .

Left disappointed :(

Yeah, lots of people for a long time.

At one point I found good stability by spending time carefully adjusting all the settings for graphics and beyond....but had to go back and do it all over again with each update...and eventually the severity of the crashes, disconnects and total PC freeze ups increased regardless to a point where it was unusable unless you like constantly screwing your computer with hard shutdowns.

Funnily enough, not having such problems with any other application aside from little issues with other games under development (as you'd expect), but still nothing close to the absolute disease going on with WoWP and it's tag-on software from WG.

Most of my friends and clan members gave up because of this despite having fun with 2.0 - became almost pointless keeping the clan running. Many other clans have had similar problems.

The fixes cannot come quick enough, low fps lag spikes broken loading screen chat & flight bugs that lead to crash to desktop. That is to name a few , I am trying to be patient supporting the game. It just seems as a paying customer WG are treating me & others  like crap , I pay for premium account  buy premium planes but this is certainly not a premium service.

Hmmm I hope then the new patch does the trick. I can only apologise if it doesn't work. Until then, we can only hope and sacrifice a spotted dick pudding to the RNG beings!

On the plus side your premium account works on ships and planes too! I know a lot of DAFT guys who jumped ship (gettit? funny!)

Please apply a hotfix before the event.

I did not invest €2000.-- into my equipment to see polygons moving across my screen, I did it to play games.

Reverting the graphic settings to the point where games on dosbox look more appealing should not be expected of any game that claims to be an e-sport.

So WG, I beg of you, fix this game before the event, and I sincerely promise to wreak havoc once more.

Hugs and kisses,

Goat.

Please confirm that the chat bug will be fixed in the next patch. I am beginning to think that the unsolicited messages from butt hurt losers is because they want you to crash your client to desktop repeatedly.

This chat bug has got to be one of the most stupid in game bugs I have ever known. It occurs in the client UI and is repeatable 100%. How on earth the developers have not debugged this yet feels me with a deep lack of confidence. This has to be the lowest hanging fruit to fix?

I can't confirm if it will or will not be fixed as you never know how these things go until they happen. It's an intention for various  bugs to be fixed, but the nature of bugs is you fix one, another pops up.
