Depends on size and level of fragmentation, in case you didn't know.

And my HDD is rather big and the level of fragmentation was pretty high as well.

So for disks of my size (4TB), several days to a week isn't uncommon.

If i had a 4TB i wouldn't wait too much time to defragg my hdd so as to avoid this kind of problem ,

in case you didn't know ...

I played only 3 times on a night map when in the Blenheim bomber (so only t3-4 games). I like the map (don't remember the name tho), especially the aurora and the lighted towns.

Are there any other night maps?

I think it's only Artic Region - my general gripes about bug fixes and development priorities aside - I thought it was a nice change, an interesting experiment with some pretty cool visuals. Some of the older players I've played with however, or younger players with eyesight issues/prescription spectacles, found it to be a bit of a headache and eye-strain inducer...including myself. I wouldn't want to do that map 2-3x times in a row, my eyes might bleed. A 'dusk' setting might be a better compromise.

Map sucks, planes are nearly invisible having sky as background.

I generally hear positive sentiment towards night maps, with people even requesting it for higher tiers also.

I'm personally a big fan, and I love the night maps with adding more glow and shiny to the lighting effects.

High speed dogfighting in darkness ? Then we need radar.

Already with these slow low tier planes you can only guess when you aim for something above.

So I don't think its a good idea to have night maps for higher tiers.

Radar is provided with your mini-map! Situational awareness carries you on light or dark maps!

That.

I usually aim for the plane icon (just under it), which is pretty silly IMHO ... the map itself looks pretty, but invisible planes against the dark sky ...?

That's not the point.

You need to see where to shoot and this is already in lowtier a problem. In higher tiers this will become impossible because there you have to give lead to your aim.

Apologies I don't understand your point then, radar is provided if for you being able to use it. IRL radar also doesn't auto-magically project the object in front of you as a model.

The aircraft are usually quite visible, can you please confirm you don't have your gamma and light settings all the way down?

Radar is not the (his) point, of course you can not aim on an arrow on the radar. The point is, we don't see the silhouette against the dark night sky.

But could you post a shot with a plane visible against the black night sky ??

Because on my setup I often only see the HUD/GUI info on the plane moving against the dark sky, not the plane itself. Only when I hit it (by aiming at the text/icon), I see the hits registering. Do you mean settings you mentioned in the game client or the monitor setup itself ?

Personally i dont like the nightmaps, as some people mentioned before, planes are hard to see.

My age is above 50, so my eyesight is slowly fading. Its not a matter of gamma setting...

I asked for the gamma and light values, as I've never had this issue and it's the first I've ever heard of anyone saying the map is too dark. Please provide a screenshot of your game if you can to illustrate the issue.

For my own screenshots:

Spoiler

Tried the best to get the views on the different coloured backgrounds you can view aircraft on.
