Modules for the "Specialist" configuration

Greetings, Pilots!

 

Having received feedback on specialist configuration in update 2.0.5 and the complexities, we would like to hear your suggestions on preferred "top" specialized aircraft for select aircraft. 

 

Update 2.0.5 has opened the possibility to upgrade all planes in the game to the "Specialist" configuration. This configuration allows you to increase the number of available slots for modules and consumables, possibility to use advanced and ultimate equipment. One of the main features is the need to use only the top configuration of the aircraft. 

 

We have a wide set of modules for our planes and sometimes the top config is not the most suitable for particular plane or particular person. That's why we need your help: compile the list of 5-10 planes which should have the possibility to use non-top modules in the  "Specialist" configuration on your opinion. 

 

Example: for Me 410 I prefer the variant with 4x20-mm guns is more comfortable than the top configuration with 2x30-mm and 2x20-mm guns.


Please note that the list should not exceed 10 planes in one post.

what i noticed a good while back and never understood why you removed it was V0 or muzzlevelcity. take the 109 E. I always used the line with 4 mgs and 1 15mm. Why because the muzzle velocity was high meaning all my rounds hit about the same time. I recall the early 20mm's haveing really low muzzle velocity just like easrly 30mm. I nevfer used those configs as most of the time my mg round would hit and the slow 30mm slug or 20mm slug would miss. meaning i was doing less dmdg eventhough i had stronger weapons but those rounds just werent hitting. I would like to see that reinserted. I dont know how manny used that but it was a good hint for me.

For me, the first one that comes to mind is the Beaufighter, though the Mosquito and Hornet may need consideration for similar reasons.

 

...and it's not just about what is necessarily better for a playstyle either, for some people running a rugged beauty like the Beau as an overloaded-weapons platform is a bit odd. I don't much care if running the Beau in one of it's several historical configurations is 'sub-optimal' or 'non-meta' - if I'd like to take the hit and choose to specialize as a more balanced interceptor, or as a 'rock-beau', that would be nice, especially as those are some of it's actually historical specialized roles.

 

EDIT TO AVOID SPAM: The last of the FW 190 line tops out with some pretty derpy cannons. I used to enjoy making the most of it as an actual multirole, sometimes playing it with one or both ground ordinance fitted and the derpier guns.....sometimes with no ordinance and the faster guns as more of a fighter hunter - both historically reasonable.

Bf 109Z - The 2  2 x 20mm cannon modules instead of being forced to use 30mm cannons

Me 262 HGII - Again the 4 x 20mm cannons instead of 30mm cannons. 

Seafang - Use of rockets instead of bombs. 

Hornet - No ordinance.

Bf 109 B - 5*7,92 mm instead of 4*7,92mm + 1*20mm

IL-2 - 2*23mm instead of 2*37mm

IL-20 - 4*23mm instead of 2*57mm

Ju 87 G - 2*20mm instead of 2*37mm

I-16 (late) - 2*7,62mm instead of 2*20mm

Pegasus* - rockets instead of bombs

 

* don't know if bombs or rockets are top module, but the possiblity to choose would be great

 

=> Mainly that planes with really different weapon configurations and different fighting styles.

Or... you could balance german 30 mm and make them usable instead of forcing us to use the superior 20mm which are supposed to be worse...

Just the ones I played after the patch:

 

IL-20 - quad 20mms instead of double 57mms (this one hurts the most)

Me265 - quad 20mms instead of 20+30mms

Yak9U (and SU-9) - 37mm instead of derpy 45mm

P1056 - six 20mms instead of quad 20mms + double 20mms

Me410 - as you mentioned, quad 20mms instead of mix

How about circumventing all this by simply removing the Specialist config altogether and only keeping the ability to unlock addition equipment and consumable slots??

 

The whole Specialist mumbo-jumbo is mostly pointless, limits player's options, adds unnecessary confusion and clutters the UI. The dealings with it also - evidently - suck dev team's time that could have been used to design other stuff.

 

Scrap Specialist config altogether, retain additional slot unlocks. As simple as that. It's an elegant solution that will save you a lot of fuss. If you keep the whole Specialist system, it's gonna keep coming back and biting you in the behind, because you will always have to fiddle with special "top configs".

This is a difficult one. I do like omglaserspewpew's suggestion but I did own him last night even though he was a tier higher than me :P, so he may not know everything :trollface:

 

Personally, I would like to see the Specialist configuration allow multiple options instead of just one. These options should be variants. For example:

 

The F7F Tigercat

This aircraft starts out as the F7F-1 and research lets you use the F7F-3 which is essentially "elite".

The Specialist version should unlock more variants with more specialised attributes. So in this case: 

The F7F-3N - Night fighter version. Equiped with Radar. Additional features - Faster but can't carry ordinance, vastly extended spotting range and causes targeted aircraft to appear brighter on night maps.

The F7F-3G - Ground attack varient - additional ordinance with faster reload. Slower top speed.

The F7F-4 - Naval variant with increased HP and damage resistance. Slower top speed and less maneuverable.

 

The JU-87 currently only available in the "G" variant.

A Specialist config would allow you to chose between

JU-87B - Dive bomber variant with fast reload bomb ordinance. Faster but less HP. Only 7.92 mm forward firing weapons though. Obviously fitted with "Jericho Siren" which activates in steep dive at high speed :playing:.

JU-87D - 20mm forward guns - very heavy armour. Slower speeds and low yield rockets instead of bombs

JU-87G - As is currently

 

I think doing this, if you really want to go down the road of additional versions available might be the best idea.

I like unlocking their max potential. It means I earn it instead of just paying for it.

  1. Me 262 - being able to choose between rockets or no rockets (nobody should be using bombs, but might as well make it an option if we're doing this)
  2. Me 262 HG II - being able to choose between 20mm and 30mm - being able to choose between bombs and no bombs, and rockets and no rockets
  3. Me 262 HG III - being able to chose between bombs and no bombs
  4. Me P.1099 B-2 - Being able to choose the 50mm instead of the 4x30mm
  5. Fw 190 D - being able to use 20mm instead of 30mm
  6. XF5U - being able to choose between tiny tim or no ordinance
  7. XF-90 - bombs or no bombs (who needs bombs when you're a cruise missile?)
  8. P.1056 - choose between 20mm and 40mm
  9. P.228 - 20mm or 30mm
  10. Not sure how it works with premiums but Do 335 - bombs or no bombs

Totally agree with this suggestion! Personally i would prefer to equip my Specialist plane with a configuration i like and not with maxed guns and stuff. CHeers 0berhessen

In your example the last line is only about using ordnance or not - this is already now possible and I hope it stays like this for all planes. (sometimes I take off the ordnance form a multirole if I want to do a specific mission)

So my examples:

Pancake - bombs instead of rockets

F2H - bombs instead of rockets


 

I also support the suggestion from Gentle1 about V0. Sometimes it might make sense to not use the top guns to keep the spread closer, especially at longer range. This becomes even more relevant if the range is extended with Equipment.


Finally I agree with omglaserspewpew about removing the separate specialist configuration altogether. This makes it unnecessarily complicated with nearly no added benefit.

 

 

Another problem: in specialist configuration you don't see anymore how much XP are needed to get the next plane - you actually have to go to the next plain to see this.

Earlier on i have proposed a so much easier solution to this.

Just allow ppl to combine their own specialist mode,but keep it set in the configuration chosen then. Maybe even add a "confirm" for each piece such that you dont accidsntally choose wrong parts.

DH.98 Mosquito - I prefer it with bombs but without rockets as the bombs inside bomb bay do not slow it down at all. 

 Something for 1.9 stats nerds ;) ---- Alone: 86%    Squad: 14%  ---- Fighter (37%) Heavy Fighter (31%) Multi-role Fighter (20%) Attack Aircraft (13%)
