Hi all, can you please help me with some advice regarding pilot skills and equipment (specialist config.) for my Yak-30?

The guns upgrade eludes me the most.

I'd say sight, lightweight frame, polished skin, lightweight engine, uprated engine

Also, heal pack, surface control, engine restart

and skills:

aerobatics

acrobatics

marksman 1
firefighter

...

My general advise is by the way to emphasize strengths, and to neglect weaknesses or solve them in a different way.

Yak 30 bad against fire? Fine, but don't spend a fire extinguisher. The firefighting skill is excellent, since manoeuvring is part of its natural behaviour.
Cockpit armour? Nuh-uh, we'll be using the med kit anyway.

Since its two main traits are manoeuvrability and speed you'd want to build those up. The polished skin does cost a tiny bit of manoeuvrability, but the gain in speed is comparatively so big that it really pays off. For more info see the video below- a bit lengthy, but it goes over the reasoning process quite nicely i think.

And then you have people like myself who will always advocate fire extinguisher > med kit. You'll never die from an injured pilot, you will die to your plane burning away like a Viking funeral.

And i will fully disagree with you for a quite simple reason.
When you have the firefighter skill and you know how to use it, it takes approximately 2 seconds to extinguish a fire. Hardly any damage, hardly any time lost.
A dead pilot on the other hand can make a life-or death difference in a turn fight when you are matched against a roughly equally manoeuvrable aircraft.

Without the firefighter skill i still prefer med-kit, since catching bullets tends to hurt more still than slowly having a part of your HP melt away- but with the equation gets a lot easier IMO.

Anyway; weren't you the same guy promoting MM1+ MM2+ EG1+ EG2? :child:

To each his own :hiding:

Your pilot mostly affects your ability to aim, not turn. The firefighting skill takes away from EG or MM or Adrenaline rush. I prefer skills focused on offense not defence unless the plane is a tank.

Hm, thats actually quite nice reasoning. My general reasoning is "ifi live longer* i'll do better". For fighters i do that through manoeuvrability, which also helps keeping your target in the sight.

And while i agree that the pilot  'mainly' affects aim- it does so a lot- it also can cost you dogfights (especially TnB/deadlock style) quite easily lol

I do sort of agree on the points thing, but:

Aerobatics is a complete must

Id always take up MM1. MM2 isnt quite necessary on yak30

A Yak 30 doesnt quite need- though will benefit from-EG

Acrobatics is always a neat extra edge in turnfights, but if youre short on points id say let acro go, not firefighting. The relative bonus with a full build is quite small.

Adrenaline rush is a good one, personally didnt get there yet.

TL;DR: if you ditch anything, take out acrobatics, not firefighting. Unless you use fire extinguishers, then ditch firefighting

The solution is 15 skill pilots on fully specialised planes. :)

Many folk here will know that I am not a fan of the specialisation system introduced in patch 2.0.5, but it is interesting to see that the system can lead to diverging opinions, both reasonable, on how best to configure a plane.  Personally, I find the Yak-30 so liable to fire that I put a fire extinguisher on it and use the "Battle Tested" pilot skill to reduce the chance of pilot injury, but I don't see why you couldn't use the "Fire Fighter" pilot skill (also, "Fire Resistance") and a medical kit.  I suspect it would be next to impossible to decide categorically which was the better configuration.

If you haven't already I would suggest you try out MM 1 and 2 on your Yak 30.

But that's the whole idea of the new system, you play it how you want to your strengths. Not the same for all, or you're wrong!

Im trying to get the pilot to 10 points at the moment.

Its at 9 now, with the following set:

Aerobatics

Firefighting

MM1

(Dropping acro)

I could take up either MM 1 or adrenaline rush then, but not both. Both would work starting at 10/11 points.

But i might try out MM2; ill let you know which of the two i find better. MM1 is still a go :)
