I can get the Banshee or Yak-19 ... pure speed vs pure maneuverability.

Banshee. Except if you like being in a single spot all the game turning like a crazy spindle.

Sounds good.

The altitude is very good too, I noticed.

Yak 19 of course. There is no other choice.

More like HF vs LF... totally different kind of fighters.

At this point, ask youself wich Tier X do you want to get, then make your choice.

That's what I said, isn't it.

mnbv_fockewulfe on NA forum summed it up nicely :

The HF wins (bar oddities in the game's mechanics, which I will get into later).

Here's why:

HF

Speed +

Altitude +

Firepower +

Health +

Agility -

LF

Speed -

Altitude -

Firepower -

Health -

Agility +

There is only one situation in which the LF will win, and four where the HF wins.

There are LF that are high altitude and quite fast, like MiGs.

Yak 19 is really great plane, and so is Yak 30. That agility allows you to easy target planes.

High speed, low agility and guns that overheat reasonably fast, it is not that easy to fly Banshee. And XF-90, which use to be one of the best planes in the game, is now very awkward to play with.

That's true. I have the Yak-15 and it's great.

But the Yak-19 is a bit of the same, so the Banshee would be a nice 'challenge' ;-) get used to a different way of fighting/flying.

The Migs look great, so I'm grinding for the Migs (9 and 15), but the I-250 takes a bit of time ...

If you liked the Yak-15, but are unsure whether the Yak-19 and Yak-30 are worth it: they fully are!

Both a good step up frim the yak 15, faining speed, climbing power, altitude, firepower, some HP and an additional equipment slot.

I have a video on both the Yak 15, which i loved, and the Yak 19, to demonstrate why i think the Yak-19 is really so much better.

As for the banshee: i simply dont know xD

Wrong, BV 212.03 and you will vaporize all opponents!

Yeah, the BV's rock !

But for that I am grinding the Fw-190 D ... that's a hard grind.

Anyway, just realized that I get shot down a lot by Yak-19's but never by Banshees ... mmm.

There are very few good HF pilots, and the ones there are usually camp at tier 6 with the 410.

Anyone can be good outturning stuff in a Yak, but if you face a good HF pilot, he will kill you, and you can't do anything about it.

That being said, the skill needed to rock with the HF is higher than with the yak.

So true.

When I'm in HF the only time a turner can kill me is when I do stupid things and carelessly engage in a furball on the deck. While I can cruise above and pick the right time to come down and disintegrate the turner in one pass.

Absolutely.

Still in doubt ... I already got some turnfighters at higher levels like Yak-15, Attacker, Ki-162, Vampire. So it might be good to try something new.

And I'm gradually learning to fly the high tier HF like 109Z, Do-335.

Well i can guarantee you the Yak-19 is a lot, and really a lot, nicer than the Yak 15.
Firepower x1.5, upgrades in manoeuvrability, an additional engine upgrade slot, far higher engine power on its own, allowing for much greater speed and altitude....

Basically i go over the comparison Yak-15 to Yak-19 in this vid. Its not my best vid, but its on this topic. I guarantee, you won't regret the Yak-19.
I think the vid also decently shows that Yaks hold up great in the current meta :D

It’s not really a choice.  I think most players find the “turn and burn” play style of the Yak-19 familiar, whereas the Banshee requires the usual discipline of heavy fighters and is less comfortable through being less familiar.  That said, a good heavy fighter player should beat a good “turn and burn” player most of the time.  I’m happy to have both, with the caveat that the play styles of the Pancake and the Banshee are quite different and if you take the former’s into battle with the Banshee you’re in for a hard time.

You can't go wrong with the Yak-9 and Yak-30. Each gets slightly less maneuverable for slightly more speed and altitude, but they are totally worth it and are only out turned by their lower tier cousin. The guns don't have the best rating but seem to be very accurate, and I certainly seem to get more practical dps from them than many theoretically more powerful fighter guns. unless you're directly head-on.

Can't comment on the Banshee since I'm finishing up my pancake grind, but I have heard some say that its guns can be difficult to hit with. That being said, in good hands I've seen it do very well in battle, and I'm certainly going to get that (probably my next t9 in a week)... It was the only jet fighter (...not a heavy fighter wargaming...) ever operated by the Royal Canadian Navy. IRL they were sometimes fitted with sidewinders although you have to do without them in game...

My advice... get both, then also get the Yak-30. :child:

Thanks for all the tips !

I will be getting both planes eventually, but at the moment I'll just choose one. I'm sure I will love the Yak-19, but at the moment I'm in for something new. And yes, I will be careful to not play the Banshee like the Pancake (which essentially is more or less a turnfighter too ...).

Enjoy the Banshee, but beware of the gun grind. You will have to keep the Corsair cannons till you get enough XP to unlock the tier X ones.

But once you get them, oh boy... The banshee is not the pancake, but it is still more manouverable than any other tier 9 HF. Just train your lead because it is quite easy to nail targets from 800 and 900 m with its top guns.
