At first I wanted to rush through this plane on my way to Javelin. I had 140k free xp, "oh it will take only 100k if I don't elite this thing, don't research expensive top engine and gun". Then I found out it's much more difficult to operate with 4 Hispanos when I had 6 of them on the previous tier. Then I kinda liked how this thing flies and the role you can have with 16 rockets and this speed - disrupt all enemy cap attempts and so on - so I said "what the hell, let's max this thing out and see what those ADENs are".

 

One of the best decisions I made in this game.

 

The ADENs trajectory and shell speed take some time to get used to. But once you master that, flying this thing becomes a joy. Fulfilling requirements for Specialized status never felt like a grind, not for a second. And once you make it and do what I did here with the guns, this thing becomes an absolute beast. Being a Tier 9 you'll have a lot of battles with Tier 8 where you are a nightmare for any RB-17 or GAA. Even in tier 10-9 battles, you are a devastator. For all the bombers & GAA, regardless of how tough they are, it's a single pass.

 

Quite frankly, now I have doubts about the Javelin. It also pack 4 ADENs but here they are grouped under the nose and on Javelin they are on the wings and need to converge - read as dispersion  - but we'll see.

 

This is what I did with the plane. The pilot needs MM II, you'll have to master the weird (slow) shell trajectory, but now it's simply the ultimate HF hammer.

P228 is more enjoyable than Javelin, mostly cause the extra ordnance (rockets) it carries.

But Javelin is not bad also.

Have you felt any difference in shell dispersion? (nose mounted vs wings with convergence)

There is a small, but if you are close downing GAs or Bombers the result is exactly the same. Obliteration!

The key thing there is putting the ROF equipment on the guns.  It makes a lot of difference if you can land 2 or 3 volleys rather than 1 or 2.  Personally, I think the stock plane is a pile of poo, but I'm mindful that this may be one of those cases, like that of the Swift, where specialising it well brings it alive.

Got me a Javelin and it's a bit disappointing.

 

While with P.228 you have a steady narrow stream of pink tracers from centralized 4 guns under the nose, with Javelin you feel the dispersion of wing mounted guns. (Both pilots are MM II.) Targets die slower.

 

On the other hand it's much faster, has a wonderful vertical turn, much higher ceiling, better rate of climb... you can see it's role in set battles against people on Tier 10, but for the brutal firepower of ADENs better stay at Tier 9.

Sadly the P 228 I find easy meat for my Me P.1092 with the upgraded canon.

Yes.

 

And you don't need to upgrade, the stock ones work quite fine on P.228. So do the guns from, say, Spitfire or Yak and so on. It's not indestructible. But it was not meant to be anywhere near you.

 

Each pilot of the true heavy fighter who allow himself to be enticed to go on the deck/mid to engage light fighters, or makes his decent to kill gaa without the planed climb-up-with-enough-energy deserves to be chewed up by Hurricanes and stuff.

That and the 228 are good when fully upgraded. The Javelin...….. in the right hands it's a beast, I've had some good games in it but it's not one of my favourites (beautiful aircraft to look at though). Worth having for when bomber escort mode rears it's ugly head

P.228 is the most beautiful swan you've ever seen, and the Javelin is a dragon.

With P.1056 the trick is to stay with 20mm armament imao. It is tragic that when specialized you are forced to take the 40mm. Much more consistent and due to number of bullets in the air you can kill even nimble light fighters. But P.228 is much better tier for tier due to improved speed and altitude performance. The guns on P.228 are great too and extra 100m of range as compared to HGII makes difference.

I've now got this POS.  I actually liked the P.1056 and the 40mm worked well for me, but stock in tier 9/10 battles this is near unplayable - can't do the damage on a run to shoot destroy planes, can't turn, and even with the Improved Uprated Engine mod, every time you're hit, regardless of calibre, you lose an engine and become a dead duck.  I'm glad it gets better but that 40k for the uprated guns seem just so far away when you struggle to get 1 or 2 kills in a battle  and I assume really you should do the first of the engine mods at least before the guns.  Ho hum, I know it will get better, I just do not want to feel I have to spend free exp (or to look at it another way, in WoT, when it was a normal tier 9 heavy, I worked my way through the US T34 heavy tank grind without using free exp ...

I would very much like to hear your comments after you max it out. You will laugh at your sentence "...can't do the damage on a run..." This plane is guns, nasty hard hitting monstrous ADENs. A devastator in a single pass.

 

My rave is based on a maxed out, fully spec'd plane as illustrated in an OP pic, with a pilot with those skills. Meet those criteriums, make it as I did and showed to all,  and everything will be different.
