Been playing WOWP for a couple of weeks. Kill the enemy, cap bases, earn points and win a game. Fine, good, doing that, seems to be working.

But then attrition comes along.

I die and my team loses points. Erm ok, so don't die. That will help my team. Just fly around in circles somewhere safe right?

What are Strongholds?

Am I missing something, like, erm, an explanation as to what the F... am I supposed to do? I tried looking for info but all I can find is, like complete missions/collect points. Nada about how Attrition is supposed to work.

Can someone tell me or point me at the place where it tells me how to help my team win a game?

Yes I am very confused and at this point I am about to stop playing for a week until things go back to what there were. I doubt that is the INTENT of WOWP but hey, I'm confused and that ain't a fun way to play.

Each team has a number of tickets at the start, usually 80. Each respawn takes away one ticket. Each captured zone increases a multiplier for kills, so 2 caps give x2, 3 caps give x3 etc - meaning that each kill will consume 2 or 3 (respectively) tickets from the other team. The team that depletes the tickets of reds first, wins. It's about killing planes, not capping.

Thank you for taking the time to post :)

Where did you find out that information? As I said I tried looking but failed badly.

Many thanks for posting that link RoyalFlyingCorps.

I came here today to post a comment on the reason why I felt I needed to come here to ask for help.

Yesterday I was too angry to post anything reasonable.

I found myself in a situation where the mechanics of how to win a game had changed drastically from what I was used to from the previous couple of weeks, which is the total amount of exposure I have with WOWP.

Desperate to find out what was going on I searched but failed to find anything that answered my root questions.

The link provided above, I suspect, was to a post made before I joined WOWP. As such, how was I supposed to know that it would help with my frustration.

I hope I have conveyed what a total mess WOWP seems to have made, in terms of informing NEW players, of conveying easy to find and much needed information about none trivial changes caused by an event why I believe is supposed to keep interest in their game fresh. Shame on you WOWP.

It is not usually 80, it is always 80.

Attrition is mode that is designed for players who are more interested in dogfighting and areal kills. In order to win you should have at least one sector more than enemy, and shot as many of their planes down. Otherwise it is same as usual conquest mode.

I like attrition because battles are longer, so it is easier to get good results and epic achievements.

There are two more mods:

-Escort, where attacking team need to protect 10 bombers to the end of the map (and they are attacked by AA, and airplanes)

-Invasion, where attacking team must take all sectors from defending team. Sectors than can't be retaken.

As what Stronghold is, it is sector that appears in modes that are not conquest. It is more strongly fortified than any other sector and have good AA guns. Like mining plant it doesn't have defensive bots. Also it is required 250 capture points to be caped.

Update 2.0.4 came out, I believe, in the second quarter of last year, so very likely before you started playing the game.  As for resources describing the game to players, WoWP is the Cinderella of the WG titles and those are very slight.  You would have thought a basic game mode such as Attrition would be easy to find information upon.  You would be wrong and your frustration justified.
