Well it is not weak, it is completely useless, pointless. Its like decoration, no other purpose at all. I always use pimped ultimate turrets with universal/prem ammo, and man, like i said NO DAMAGE barely any critical. Crappy weak light fighters can demolish my bombers/attack aircrafts easily, because i have no defensive armament. Dear WG, did you nerf those turrets? Any tester tried it before? You should remove this whole turret thing up to tier 5, its a joke and misleading

No, they were always weak because of low caliber => short range + low damage + fast damage fall off, nothing new.

The 20mm rear turret on the FW57 is amazing I regularly get one or two kills a game.I hope they haven't nerfed it.

Let's be honest here, there are only 3 planes (low and mid tier) with decent rear turret damage: Fw 57, SNCASE SE 100 and Bristol Beaufighter.

On every other airplane - in this tiers - any defensive armanent is just a like those PVC potato cannons: loudly, ridiculous and nothing more.

On a side note a friend of mine built a potato cannon that used a boiler ignition sparker and hairspray as propellant it was kind of impressive to see a large bore spud gun. However , It would be a poor choice of defensive armament on an aircraft, unless you wanted to create high altitude chips.

Even if the damage is weak, can't you still put in those crew skills that remove incoming damage (Defensive Fire) and maybe the one that increases that chance of crits? Those would still give a tangible help although the damage is weak.

It's also fairly consistent with the historical role of rear guns, so far as I understand it. That one machine gun is unlikely to blow up the attacking plane. But it might make the fighter pilot lose his nerve and aim poorly, or if you're very lucky, you might hit something critical in his plane and force him to disengage.

Although I suspect it would be better to cover his cockpit in mashed potatoes so he can’t see where he’s flying or aiming.

It was known on more than once occasion for me to fly past a target I was shooting at before I had killed it, when flying the Fw57. So jumping into the rear turret would usually allow you to finish it off.

Just to add to the list, the new P.38 Wilk's turret is really good (only slightly worse than Fw57, but it's dual machine guns versus the cannon on Fw). Even then though, most use one gets from turrets at low tiers is the damage reduction skill for your gunner. The other good thing is crit hits skill - as shown when one tails a bot heavy and gets constantly critted by reargunner :)

You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day

I for one hope they have nerfed all turrets at all tiers.

Getting a little tired of discovering how fragile my fighter is when trying to take down bombers and heavies...

I have had the same;the rear gunners are so asleep and so idle;they used to do fairly well before and in the former version.

What I´d hate most will not be enemy planes, but my own rear gunners for their sheer lazinesses. But some players are apparently using them effectively, probaby coz they or he may have got 12or 13 skill level at least. Also in mid-higher tiers, too. I know someone got 14 for his Ill-40.  My ill-20 and 1099B got 13,5 skill, and have been very energetic in destroying fighters in 1.9; their rear gunners never kill now. But,they sometimers do it when it is least expected. lol    They are so nerfed to my big disappointment.

Though, someone will have to fly attackers, otherwise their existence will be meaningless in this game. If they rertract inneffectvie planes to replace them with newer planes and/or other features, it would be very welcomed.

cheers
