Was this plane changed somewhere in the past year ? Unnerfed or something ?

I remember that after I got the XF5U, the F7F was moved to a dark corner of the hangar and forgotten. But for the HF mission this weekend I had a look at it and noticed I had scored pretty OK with it ... so I put a new 90% pilot in it (hangar barracks full of Krauts and Limeys, but nothing else) and took it for a spin. 2 x no.1 in a defeat and a victory, but the victory also gave me a McGuire, Grade II and Hunt for Vulture. And a 100% pilot.

I think it stayed the same, you got better.

I fly it occasionally. Seems the same every time.

You got better.

Environment could have been changed. Bf 109F wasn't good for me the first time i bought it, but it became much better the second time. Difference was the quality of player around me. The first time they were hard core profi ones, and second time they were average ones.

Also, the first time around F7F had to deal with LF and MF, occasional HF and GAA. When they introduced the bombers much, all of the sudden F7F has things to do with it's massive armament and with less LF presence.

Absolutely ! I killed a lot of bombers (Vulture badge) ... and it can get pretty high, near 2,5 km !!

For me it was the first HF that I enjoyed but I had to sell it so I can buy the next one.

I found it to be tiresome, flying around looking for some left-overs or AFKers to shoot down. It was too slow and clumsy for anything else, especially when matched against tier 8 all the time. So I just sold it right after researching the XF5U. I only keep planes I really like, or which are good to have for missions or crew training.

I stopped playing American HFs because of this hunk of junk (not that I was any good with HFs to begin with). I loved the P-38's so the F7F was an enormous let down, an embarrassing wet fart on a first date, a wet spot along your pant leg just before an important meeting... you get the idea.

There were some bombers already when I jumped into 2.0, but for me this abomination of a plane is a HF without any of the good qualities of a HF. I haven't touched it in like a year or so. I would definitely like to see some recordings of outstanding games played with it to understand what the hell I'm doing wrong.

Well, just for a challenge I flew the stock/elite F7F with a new pilot for the Unbreakable mission, I love badges.

I got really good scores, no.1 and 2 most of the time, but out of about 25 matches I only won 4 and in those I did not get no.1 of course (thanks matchmaker).

Flew some heavies after that letdown and eventually got the emblem in my XF5U. Put the badge on the F7F anyway, because by that time it was almost Specialist with a 4 point pilot.

It can take on most heavies and bombers, but watch out for Spits and I-220's at >3000 meters ... :amazed:

The Tigercat isn't as bad as people say, but it is definitely limited and you have to fly it being clearly conscious of those limitations.  Like most limited heavy fighters, I find it best to ignore its ordnance for the most part and to concentrate on high altitude tasks.  Your target selection has to be good - pretty much you're looking to surprise an isolated target or take out bombers - and if you don't fly it with engine cooling installed you're making a mistake.  If you take it low too often, except on a map where you have a mining plant near to your spawn where you can use your ordnance, you are more or less fodder for the enemy team.

For the mission (high pp) and grinding to specialist (participate in captures) I took ordnance on every flight. The 1000 pounder and 8 rockets are every effective.

But after that I will probably fly for some time without ordnance and concentrate on intercepting bombers and GA.

The ordnance is pretty good, I agree.  If there's an opportunity to use it, for example on an undefended mining plant or in a sector where the defenders have been shot down or are far away I will use it.  The key thing is I won't use it unless it's absolutely safe to do so, because the Tigercat is vulnerable at these moments and doesn't have the ability to escape easily.

Flying without ordnance is worth trying, though I suspect the increase in performance won't significantly alter the plane's characteristics.

Completed the Unbreakable mission with this. My only HF that qualified. It was just as crap as I remembered it to be, but thankfully I only had to try two times - on the 2nd try the enemy team wasn't very awake and my team didn't include any Top Gun graduates.
