what is the difference between enhanced and calibrated equipment?

if one does both, does the oder matter? is there a wrong way to do it? (like for example, does one reset the other?)

There's no difference. You improve your equipment with Enhancing and can boost that improvement a bit more with Calibration.

You Enhance equipment in set jumps of 100, 200, 300 and 400 points. The last three also bring certain perks.

Calibrating is boosting the primary good and bad characteristics of the already enhanced improvement. It can go to +78 (the first enhancement which brings you 100 you can boost to 178). But if you take one more step to second enhancement, it will simply jump to 200 thus erasing all your calibration from 100 to, say, 165.

So the existing wisdom is this: Enhance to the level you want, and only then do the calibration.

edit

"the level you want" means: for the planes you really like and want to keep for good and fly often, do the Specialization then Enhance equipment to 400 and only then do the Calibration.

For all other, specialize to 200 choosing the first perk you need and then calibrate. That first perk on 200 will work even if the plane is not Specialized, but if you go to 300 or 400 on a non-specialized plane, all the perks will not work.

Generally, but not necessarily always.  On turn fighters occasionally I set the lightweight equipment to the maximum level and calibration, but if I have polished skin as a second airframe component I may not do the same since improving that damages manoeuvrability.  In that case I might keep it at improved level and see if calibrating it will not impact on manoeuvrability (keep an eye on those bonus characteristics).

Or boost the engine power instead of polished skin.

Guys, thank you both for advises but they both are fine print, way too advanced for the simple OP which has to be clearly explained for the newbies. Leave the high-end fine tuning for some other thread, please :honoring:

...and selfishly, guided by mere arrogance to show how advanced your knowledge of the game is, ruin a simple starting helper for the new guys by posting needles end-game intricacies?

Oh well, be my guest.

I don’t need your invitation to post, Zen, and you should avoid issuing instructions to post elsewhere.

You just go on thinking that if it suits you.  Personally I never make the mistake of knowing what other people think when nothing has been said to reveal it.

...and now, besides sidetracking the introductory explanation to "what's the difference between enhanced and calibrated equipment", you are turning this into how well your perception of what other people think is.:)

C'mon mate, you're way above this.
