so i just had a look at: https://worldofwarpl...ty/leaderboard/

and noticed the insanely high winrates. 80%, 92% how in the world is that even possible?
i could believe stats like that in the WoWP of old, where the game wasnt decided as long as you yourself were still alive. especially some high altitude BnZ plane. but as of 2.0 battles are won and lost long before the match actually ends and often know that you have either won or lost way in advance.

so how is it possible?

There are some of them who do so, but there are others too. What's with the guy in the top 5 who does 50% of all flights in attack planes? There is a simple solution to end this fakes, multiply the no. of victories with the tier they have been won. Give 10 points for T10 victories, 9 for T9 and so on. There would be a reason to play the higher tiers ... and it would not make sense any more to play Tier 1 for a better WNR.

Hey Frateras,

I am not convinced this is practical, because it should not be a goal to reach and play high tiers only. There are plenty of good players at tier V-VII, mixed with average people and a (astonishingly sizeable) mix of people who don't really have a clue. I mean, I just acquired a tier X (the Javelin), but it goes so fast and I am so old (-ish) that is stresses me out. Medium tiers are more... relaxing. I leave my son to play tier II (although now he plays tier IV) with my account because even though I love the early monoplanes and the maneuverability of the late biplanes, I have the guilt the size of a moon when I shoot down poor guys in tiers II... I removed the pilot of my tier III Fw-57 just to resist the temptation (although the purpose of this plane is just to troll tier IV...).

Who cares about the WR ? Well, nobody, because the WR won't fool anyone, even at a quick glance. You can immediately see how it is made: we all know the OP planes: the Beaufighter (guilty), the I-15 (guilty some time ago), the Fw-57 (guilty), the Spitfire, the Spit DB605, the XP-31 etc etc etc....  Leave the obsessive and compulsive stroke any part of their anatomy with WR paraphilia.

"Paraphilia (previously known as sexual perversion and sexual deviation) is the experience of intense sexual arousal to atypical objects, situations, fantasies, behaviors, or individuals.Such attraction may be labeled sexual fetishism.

No consensus has been found for any precise border between unusual sexual interests and paraphilic ones. There is debate over which, if any, of the paraphilias should be listed in diagnostic manuals, such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) or the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).

The number and taxonomy of paraphilia is under debate; one source lists as many as 549 types of paraphilia. [...]" (wikipedia)

I think we might add the WR fetishism as the 550th type. I had friends who got their kick out of strange stuff, strange items, strange materials. It is amazing what people can make out of ping-pong gear (ALL the gear). Who am I to judge ?

What positively drive me nuts are the guys with WR<45% who use their A6M2 zero to attack bunkers, the guys with the Spit DB605 who manage 70 points in 8 minutes of game, and the other blokes like that. There, I am puzzled: what kick do they get out of this ? They get shot down 4-5 times and manage about 200 points of damage in tier V-VI. They never capture any base. I saw a few days ago a guy in his F-4U4 corsair who managed 0 (zero) damage during the battle. I got wondering: is the guy AFK ? Then I saw him, chasing an enemy, firing from his 6. Then a bot got on his tail (another Corsair), and erased him in 2 seconds, as Bots can do. I saw him another time, firing at another target. He astonishingly finished the whole game (about 8 minutes ?) with zero damage. He got downed about 3 times.

It is me ? Am I too average ? Am I missing something ? Or is it a case of....

"Sexual masochism disorder is the term employed by the current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) of the American Psychiatric Association.[1] It refers to the "recurrent and intense sexual arousal from the act of being humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise made to suffer, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviors" (p. 694). It is classified as one of the paraphilias, called an algolagnic disorder (p. 685), which is one of the "anomalous activity preferences" (p. 685). The formal diagnosis of sexual masochism disorder would apply only if the individual experiences clinically significant distress to the individual or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. (wikipedia again, I know)"

I know I should neve judge (exception: people of faith), but I am struggling. Is my life dull and pointless, not because I agree with Jean Paul Sartre's existentialist view of the universe, but rather because I am missing entirely on the transcendant power of the pleasure given by loosing dramatically and making my team loose with me ?

Is the WR a cryptic beacon in this world, leading us to question the very basics of our existence ?

Levlos.

I used to feel like that, but lately there are so many Specialist planes flying around in tier I - IV, that I fly there more frequently as it gets easier to avoid the seals.

Hi Levlos,

this WNR fetishism really got psychological aspects but there are not enough information about the single players for research. My point is, it costs victories to bring a plane out of the grind and I think most people prefer to win a game instead of loosing it. So many people who could play high tiers prefer to stay in the lower tiers which makes it difficult for new players to find some satisfaction in playing this game. Personally I never cared about the WNR unless I was mobbed in the German forum because of my low WNR for a year or more. So I proved that I can reach 60% for a month when I'm playing the successful planes --- but it did not end. I could say what I want, the only answer was I got a higher WNR as you. There must be a strong tendency to shift the competition of arguments onto the competition of WNRs. So the WNR must be decisive for many players. They need some simple indicator to implement a hierarchic order. I think to multiply the WNR with the tiers of the victories would be a strong motivation for many players to enter the higher tiers and to make place for the newbees in the lower ones.

Even the basic psychology tells us it's compensation. Either for the size or the non-usage, or both.

Hey Frateras,

Knowing the human psyche, my bet would be that those people would still avoid the environment they are challenged in -especially the fetishists, as you call them :) My guess would be that they would hover around, seeking dopamine-linked reward in medium tiers, where player level is still bad enough to be able to pull good matches and write "easy win" or "noobs" at the end of the game when winning (don't you love it when they type that, eh!). So in that respect, yes, it could move the fetishists away from low-tiers.

- We could remove the low-level daily missions. But its unfair:  if you are not that good yet, those tokens are really necessary to swap around equipment.
- We could introduce some medals to gently ridicule the experienced players playing low tier, but that would alienate some paying custormers, and those are out-of-reach.
- We could hurt people where it counts: the wallet. For instance, there would be diminishing returns in the credits, materials and experience you gain when you win battles in low tiers. The rewards are divided by the number of games you played. But what about those average players, or players that play on a laptop, or with bad ping ? (I played with a ping of 550 a few days ago by mistake, while uploading some work, and man, respect, it needs some serious skill!)

Or we could just admit that it makes no difference. Who gives a flying F about WR anyway.

What we could do to alleviate the issue of WR fetishists chasing the new blood from entering the game is: low tier does not count towards WR. It starts at tier V.

Plus, at low tiers, you get less and less materials, credits and XP the more games you have. So that would kind of shelter of tiers I-IV for players who are sensible enough to admit you got to learn the ropes before playing with the big boys.

Alas, when I (sometimes not in the seetest way, with flower petals and Vivaldi swirling in the background, I admit) message an absolutely inept player and advise him to start at lower tiers (I-II) before getting wrecked in medium tiers, I 90% usually get a "F you" response. Or "who are you to tell me how to play". I then patiently try to convey the fact that they are probably not enjoying themselves at those tiers. I usually then get some very kind proposals of joining my mouth with various pieces of theur anatomy.

Yeah, well, I don't care if those players get impaled by an atomic bomb. They can burn.

But I care about the others, who are not into leather and whips, and who understand what a team is.

L.

The issue is, sometimes the lower Tiers are more difficult to play than the higher ones. But I don't care any more. 20 defeats and still grinding a new plane doesn't matter any more. When I stagnate and put the points into the pilot skills I almost win, when I buy new planes and start with less skilled pilots I almost loose. And I think that's normal. I've bought the S-199 Sarkeen yesterday, a special offer with a six point skilled pilot. The Sarkeen was developed on base of the Me BF-109 in 1947. And I have to realize that there are still 3 points missing to make a winner from. What I want to say the difference between full skilled pilots and full equipped machines compared to beginners planes is enormous. So I favour an indicator that  observe this simple matter of fact like I suggest it.

That's the only meaningful route for a discussion. Because it's not an issue of "how" - it's well documented, everybody can do it - but "why".

Yes but it's so obvious even if I don't agree with Freud regarding sexuality. I mean there are not just stupids in the German Forum. I'm more interested in this social psychological group dynamic, because this might become dangerous one day again.

I think that this thread here is not the right place to discuss social psychological group dynamics of the german forum.
There is a better place for that - the german forum!

Nevertheless it's nice to hear about psychological based deficiencies of seal clubbers.

eerrrr,

I don't decide anything anywhere. I am just trying to exchange views and hopefully be a catalyst for new ideas to take shape. Plus I don't want the game to die. I like it.

Zen was obviously teasing with Freud, this fella was nice and groundbreaking a century ago, but has been so thoroughly surpassed his mention is merely historical now. He's become a meme !

( Cmon, Anna O., and the boy that could not write the 'p' letter because it reminded him of the shape of a horse's [edited]that had bit him when he was young ? Women are all frustrated because they have no [edited]? )

PS: ah, reminds me of a joke.

There's this guy, who is a boss at a factory. One day, during the winter, he walks up to the factory building, and sees written in the snow, with piss, the words "The boss is a jerk". Infuriated, he storms in the offices and gathers his managerial team. He screams at them "I know this is an insider job, one of my employes surely wrote it: you'd better collect samples, cross-check them immediately. I want the culprit indentified by tomorrow, at the latest. I am warning you: if you don't find him, heads will roll!!". The managers hurry up, collect samples, contact laboratories, and all that.

Next day, the boss is really early at his office. His trembling hands stuck together, his lip pursed, his face livid, he watches the silent procession of managers enter the meeting room. They are not making eye contact, and no-one talks. The boss explodes into a rage

"-Well, then ! What are you expecting, did you find him ???

- well...errrr, boss, we did analyze the urine samples, and we had a match... sort of

- Give me the name !!!!

- It is Dupond, from the sales office, but...

- there are no 'buts', call him right away here

- errr, well...It is a bit complicated...

- What can be complicated, you blithering idiots, did he do it or not ?

- Well, boss... it is his urine, but ...ah... the hand-writing is your wife's"

have a nice day

Levlos

This game is rigged as hell. My last 2 battles (both losses) are perfect examples. Just check the screenshots, they explain a lot.

1.

http://prntscr.com/plbkcp

So, what do we see here? First, 5 bots in my team with less PP than the worst bot in the enemy team. Second, a heavy bot in my team with 0 dmg and 3 deaths. Same plane bot (F2H) in the enemy team dealed over 6k dmg and killed 4.

2.

http://prntscr.com/plblxe

This one is even more ridiculous - we were going to win, but in the very last moment, just when the score became 800, the last survived bot in my team (Me 329) crashed in a rock, while it was not damaged and there was noone on its tail - it simply went into a rock to achieve the defeat.

Congrats for the "balanced" bots, WG, u did great job.

And there are people out there who pay money for this game, a true miracle that blows my mind...
