I have a slight issue with these new missions. Rewards seem good. Missions aren't bad either... however the missions require to be completed in order.

I don't think the WG team thought this through, because the obvious consequences are:

1) you would have to play substantial time only in tier 4.

2) then after that only in tiers 5-7

3) and then after both of the above in tiers 8-10

4) this of course throws your daily missions for the week out of the window

5) you would need to have the planes to play those lower missions in order to progress to the higher. I for instance don't have Spit I,Spit V or Spit IX, because I don't like those planes and I do have Spit Ia, but Spit Ia is not included.

6) A massive influx of Spitfires will make flying some other aircraft rather annoying experience.

So what happens for me is that frankly I'm not willing to commit the time/effort required to complete this in the given format. it's not worth it at all. Now that's generally fine, but with slight modifications it could be far more enjoyable experience for more players. That's why thinking it through is actually important if you care for results. It took me seconds to figure the above out and I wonder if anyone at WG spent a few seconds thinking of it.. or they didn't care.

Well, that would be a first ...

For me this is turning into a most frustrating event. At the moment nothing but specced Bristols trying to steal each others and my kills. All 3 servers I've flown are the same . CIS is worst. Everybody there has an ult specced Bristol with skilled pilot.

I don't think I'll even try to make it to the 2nd (and 3rd) mission.

In my experience almost every specialised Spitfire will try and steal your kill. Even if it means crashing into you. Thankfully in the few games I have played this week, I have only come across one or two.

I don't mind Spits stealing my kills. I'm just annoyed by the obligatory 1 specced Spitfire defending the airbase for the whole duration of the battle. Mainly for the reason that my own Spit pilots are just not smart enough to ever manage this task  :hiding:

I love those guys very much.

They buzz the deck, pirouetting  over the runway, fully immersed in turn-turn-TURN!!! stuff so they never see a HF coming at 45 degrees from above. They die in one second, barely enough to realize something big with huge teeth is after them, with only enough time to try to break on the opposite side... I love them very much.

Have I ever mentioned I'm pretty bad at aiming?

I've amused myself by outturning bad Spitfire pilots with a Bristol 146 today.  But having to play at low tier...the WoWP team will never learn.

IIRC Bristol 146 outturns Spitfire, so not a big achievement there.

OTOH frag stealing and tunnel vision is magnified by an order, and turned off friendly fire doesn't help much.

Such event should have counterparting side.

Defending Brit tiers II-IV would be nicely countered by attacking 109s (Nazi HFs would be an overkill). Stage II could be the same, as it's pretty straightforward and doesn't interfere much with general gameplay. Then stage III - attack frags for Germans, they would pick camping Swifts out.

You recall incorrectly.  Though the fairly useless comparison web site will tell you the Bristol 146 and the Spitfire I have identical manoeuvrability, digging into the API statistics shows that the Spitfire has slight advantages.  The point I was making is that people tend to assume the Spitfire will outturn anything other than Japanese planes, so will happily engage my Bristol 146 only to find themselves in a spot of bother.  As you say, it's not a big achievement, rather like your flying in general.

Above somebody made the good point that you have to have the planes to fly in each set of tiers, or "periods" as the WoWP team likes to call them.  I'm in the privileged position of owning all of the relevant aircraft, but I suspect many will have sold lower tier aircraft upon obtaining their successors in order to release hangar slots.  That would make it a nuisance to do these missions.

I do not know what it is about Spitfires, but I just can't get any sort of feel for them. They leave me cold. I had a Spitfire IX up until around a week ago. I really can't explain it. The Spitfire XIV looks really good on paper. Thats what I was aiming for. Wasn't thinking beyond that.

So I don't really read the mission objectives....."Into battle...Spitfire" seems clear enough for me.

Play a couple of games....objectives don't advance.....wth???

Ahh....you have to earn your way to the Spitfire...so I have a look at the pew-pew-planes.......only have the Bulldog, ok how hard can it be?
(Not played anything below Tier IV in ages)

Jump into the Bulldog.....5 minutes of trailing across the map at what feels like 12 mph.....2 min later .....brain hemorrhage...how can people stand sealclubbing at this level?......... and there certainly were enough of them around.

Back to hangar......reaquire Bristol 146, equip it, retrain a pilot.........jump into the game......pew-pew-pew.......argh....forgot to upgrade the modules......cardiac arrest!!!

Once upgraded I was probably one of those kill stealing Bristols for an hour or so, don't feel too responsible though.....this one is on wargaming :honoring:

I've done period 1 mission with Buldog and Bristol 133/146 on NA and CIS servers. Not even going to bother on EU server.

OMG!? Just noticed that this nonsense will last til 27th !! Might sneak out and go buy a Nintendo Switch ... since Wowp has nothing interesting on sale anyhow.

I almost bought Alaska for WoWS yesterday for the same reason.

But, actually, that is the point. You go through the line from bottom tiers up to the top. After completing the first mission, you have enough credits and experience to unlock Period II Spitfires, you also receive equipment for your Tiers V-VII and some parts for enhancement. After completing the second mission, you can research and equip your Period III planes and complete the last mission in the chain.

Really ??

Just one week to get from Bristol 146 to Spit XIV ... impressive. Now only if I didn't have to work in between playing Wowp

One week?  You can do that in one long day.  I went from the tier 3 British multirole to the tier 9 heavy in a day.

Caffeine, amphetamines, peyote and avocados ? What's your recipe ? :)

I drink tea, not that heathen coffee muck, so the caffeine intake is quite low since 3 cups of tea is more than enough in any one day (Assam - morning, Ceylon - midday, Darjeeling - afternoon, as I'm sure you weren't wondering).  I don't do drugs.  However, I am big on avocadoes. :)

Is it worth grinding beyond the attacker if I've completed the mission already? If I just play this jet for a while longer I might be able to research the Swift before the 30% discount ends...

But is it actually worth it? (or will I just have bored myself playing one plane to research and buy a plane I'll rarely fly?)

My 2C is no.

All other Lights are better, more interesting. For pure dogfight go Yak, for Reichdreaming it's Binary (very capable), you have iconic MiG-15 (good, strong plane) and Sabre (an elegant weapon for a more civilized age).
