My 2C is no.

All other Lights are better, more interesting. For pure dogfight go Yak, for Reichdreaming it's Binary (very capable), you have iconic MiG-15 (good, strong plane) and Sabre (an elegant weapon for a more civilized age).

I agree here, Swift is very dissapointing as the final machine in Spitfire tree. It can have good moments and good battles, but whatever you accomplish in a Swift, you can do in other planes with half the effort involved. Even the ADENs are a let-down, as you only have a pair that overheats fast. I'm not saying it's a bad plane, let's make that clear, but it's very demanding. It's British - capricious, distant, quirky and leaving a lot to be desired ;)

Is it worth grinding beyond the attacker if I've completed the mission already? If I just play this jet for a while longer I might be able to research the Swift before the 30% discount ends...

But is it actually worth it? (or will I just have bored myself playing one plane to research and buy a plane I'll rarely fly?)

The problem with grinding to the Swift is you then have a mega-grind to make the bloody thing playable. You need marksman I & II as a minimum for your pilot, as well as the maxed out gunsight before you have even a 50/50 chance of some of your ammo hitting home. You really need it specialised asap but of course unless you use tokens you'll spend hours of frustration getting it specced as you need to rack up kills which can take forever with the hideous inaccuracy of its guns and quickness they overheat.

Its a nice looking aircraft and I've enjoyed dusting it off to use in some games during this special, but boy does it need work when you first acquire it.

The Swift is really a pseudo-heavy without the hit points and, in my opinion, only bearable when specialised.

I did the mission, and Swift wasn't so big trauma as I remembered.

Fast and with reasonable boost acceleration, accumulating enough energy to farm HFs, enough HP that most bombers weren't also an issue.

OTOH - quite probably MiG-15 will do almost everything better.

Cheers for the feedback all of you. Very enlightening. The comment regarding it being a dog until it's specialized and the road to that being long and grindy is duly noted. I've felt this before with other planes.

Whatever will be will be I suppose...I do have a fondness for frustrating planes that must be flown carefully though...

Heh, and then I go and prove myself wrong...

Spoiler

21 kills, 21k PP, and almost 12k damage done (I'm still on the last leg of that special mission for crates). Well, Swift is not bad. It's just that there are planes nicer to fly.

EDIT: oh erhmagerd... the very next battle too...:

Spoiler

Your assessment from the top of the page was given in a rare moment when you were normal.

Then the unicorn kicked in.

Oh well, let's see... some say B-17D is crap.

I started the Spit missions too ... held out a couple of days, but the dark side won.

One advantage of starting later ; less Bristols & Spits. Everybody is a period ahead of me ;-)

2 battles made at 2/2.30 am, with barely no humans if not humans at all.

Swift is just the most useless fighter, togheter with yak30, fw252 and the sabre. But atleast yak30 is a turning machine and the sabre has speed and turnability. Swift have NOTHING good to shine, speed? Mig15, sabre and me1011 are better on this point. Manuevrability? Apart the fw252 everything is better. Guns? I have really to talk about these? On the paper they are amazing, in reality just a lottery and with, the nice hit reg bug, a swearing concert.

Someone wrote about swift being a bomber or heavy counter, ahahahah, sorry if i laugh... This is just a big joke. A bomber can easily rip off a swift, i just get fun of them if they get closer enough, heavies can easily get away turn and delete swift. If a swift kills an heavy the points are 2. 1) the heavy was distracted and didn't even notice the swift, but this could happens with any kind of plane, so doesn't proove anything. 2) the heavy is a noob and instead to boom and zoom starts to turn and fight... And this proove the player is an idiot, not the swift is good to chase heavies.

Every single fighter on t10, less 252, can do something better than swift and overall are way better on the potential to carry a game.

Ps. Why yak30 and sabre are bad? Yak30 is too slow for tier 10,only chance is having mid sector with noobs or bots to farm pp, but any decent player can easily delete a yak30 and take the sector in front of his face. Speed is the biggest issue in a tier dominated by fast planes and big maps.

Sabre, i love this plane, i love the shape, the speed, the manuevrability, the altitude, but... Those guns... Sadly the hit reg bug combined with the absolute underpower of these machine guns (mg), make this plane a crap nowadays. U can't carry a game where u need so long time to kill a plane and ur chances to kill a bomber are near to zero. A buff on those mg (only for the fighter mg, not all related mgs) would turn this plane in a great choice, but today, naaaah.

My 2 cents are about the ability of the plane/s and the chance to carry a game. Swift is nowhere near this ability/chance (unless u are fighting only bots or absolute noobs, but there doesn't matter the plane u use)

It was better he didn't post the second message infact. Prooved that swift is good in bot games

Where is the fun? Started first day, 35/40 games after finished all 3 stages (avoiding t9/10 crap planes).

When u had so many ppl turning over a base and u could just get easy kills or cap points around
