Found and fell in love with this version. As a rabid ultra ortodox Beatles fan, I was ready to trash them for blasphemy - and these lovely kids took me by surprise. Especially with wonderfully arranged backing vocals bringing in drums at the beginning of the second verse, "He blew his mind out in a car..."

...and couldn't remember what those "Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire" were about. Yes it starts with Tara Browne an' all, but what's with these holes?

And asked Google and got the most brilliant answer ever :teethhappy:

"Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire..." Lennon's "Day in the Life" What and why?

Jim Burke, Santa Fe, USA
  • Apparently Lennon was reading a copy of the local newspaper, and that day there was a report about the 'atrocious state of the area's roadways' - that due to a failure of council upkeep, there were 4,000 potholes on roads in Blackburn. My reaction to that fact, in comparison with his reaction, rather explains why he was John Lennon and I'm not.

How things have moved on since 1967.  There are more than 4,000 potholes these days, some of which could be classified as caves.

Some paleo-biologists warned locals that as eons passed and natural erosion deepened those caves, strange eco-systems have emerged, with animals evolving there, losing pigments, sight and changing so much as to be become entirely new species.

When local papers start mentionning missing children around those potholes and strange hairballs of gigantic size with human teeth in them, I will clearly take that motorway exit and avoid Blackburn altogether.

There's no reason to wait that long to avoid Blackburn.

John Lennon wrote A Day in the Life on this, and all I can do is post four crummy pictures (of the original Blackburn ones, though).

This explains why he was John Lennon and I am not.

Every year in Ireland many young students(who don't know each other) from secondary schools around Ireland head to Gealtacht areas for a few weeks  during their summer holidays to learn Irish, learn musical instruments and dance. But the Gealtacht in Lurgan Co.Galway, at the end of the few weeks they always throw together a video on a popular song chosen to be sung in Irish every year.(they have many vids)

This is one of my favourite covers of a Coldplay song...in Irish!.....

Aren't young people great!

Oh man that's a horrible, dragging sound. The Beatles played that in a different way.

I wouldn't go to any show where they'd have me as a member of the audience. :)
