they didn't nerf it, they castrated it.

Agree. But you still can have fun and nice scores with it, because...

Fly it as a Heavy.

Not to mention the fact that 47N has 8 Brownings, and 20 seconds of boost. Heavies may keep up, but most LF will loose breath. Plus, 900kph dive speed is nothing to sneeze at. I'd agree with zen here, you're doing it wrong.

Also, wrong examples. Fw 190 A-5 doesn't exceed 700kph; 109G has lower dive speed AND lower max boost speed; Me410 doesn't exceed 700kph neither, dive speeds are lower than that of the 47N; 109Z is faster, but again has lower dive speed; so does F7F - faster in level flight, lower dive speed. Only P-51D outmatches both level and dive speed of the Jug. Don't panic, check your numbers twice. Important factor: while your max level flight speed varies depending if you sport ordnance or not, dive speed remains the same regardless of it, and for the Jug it's one of the highest values around.

Yeah, well ... in theory those specs look nice, but in the game I sometimes get the impression that especially bots are not restricted by them. Just now I was chased over the entire map by a bot 190A8 ... he not only kept up, despite the fact that I had shot him up ; he gained on me ! And shot me.

Anyway, I keep grinding. Only 8000 points to go ... that's 40 enemy kills. The specialization requirements for multi-roles are a joke.

At long last ... I think it's the only plane in the Republic tree that I managed to specialize.

Old but gold.

After i got the P-47N yesterday i gave it a try as pure multirole with focus of ground targets, but was very disappointed by its performance. I had Mary as pilot and full ordnance. In most battles i got 4 aerial kills with luck. After reading this thread and tried some of the given hints i fly the P-47N now without ordnance and i am very pleased now with the performance. Changed the pilot aswell. Even with a pilot thats not at 100% training yet, its a very enjoyable plane now.

Thank you all for the hints and advises on that multirole line. As soon as i get the XP-72 is try that setup too.

That's what I did with the P-47B and N when I first got them ; speed and demolition.

While they are very good at destroying ground targets with all that ordnance, getting away and getting kills waiting for reload is a lot harder. And you need lots of kills (enemy arcraft !) to specialize them ...

So I switched to speed for the N and that worked a lot better, the first in that line that I managed to specialize.

Now working on the B ; that experimental uprated engine was made for it !! I'm now chasing heavies instead of being chased.

EDIT: oh yeah !

I might ditch bombs then - about 15k to go for the tier 7 variant and it's an ok plane, guns melt anything that gets close enough in front of you, just has all the manoeuvrability of an oil tanker.  Not going to skip through it, but not going to miss it either.  DO fer this will be a rather boring line - I'm now going through the ones I've not completed before (even if I do not have the tier 1 plane yet - ran out of cash).

Now got the N and had a couple of battles in it.  Have I just been unlucky or do the you lose the engines every time some one just sneezes at you?

I did the specialisation P-47N some weeks ago. It was one of the hardest, except the one for the F6U.
At the middle of the grind i stopped counting how often i was with an engine failure in the mid of a fight.
Use that engine restart consumable or give up some speed for the engine armor. I tried both ways and was with the manual engine restart consumable more pleased.

The most satisfying specialisations were the P-47N and recently the P-47B !!

You actually specced the F6U ?! I've got only 172 kills to go ... :sceptic:

Finished that one during the last weekend.

Was a long long road, but glad its done.

At the moment i work on the FJ-1 and the F7F. The FJ-1 is much more nice to fly than the F6U, thats for sure.

But without help that grind would needed much more pain and time.

Thanks to all for the hints here in the topic and thanks to 0berhessen and lokid_1 for flying with me and helped me grind through those planes.  o7
