Back then I thought Boney M's "Ra-ra-Rasputin" was the most irritating thing I will ever hear on my tinny Sanyo transistor, that nothing will make my teeth itch with rage more... but not a year later came this.

I immediately formed a punk band.

Russki's not bad, but there is a thing that i can only post under spoiler because it's too dangerous a sight for the average man. A decent one, i mean.

Everyone who mention Ian Dury gets my like.

And in that band, comprised of imba af guys there was a monster on the bass - Norman Watt Roy. So when Nina Hagen did a cover of Rhythm Stick it was a tough call for a bass player, and he did it spectacularly. Not so swingy as Norman, but mit präzision. Brilliant cover!

If you like Norman Watt-Roy's bass-playing with Ian Dury, you'll love his work with Wilko Johnson.  I say "work" - he's obviously enjoying himself far too much for it to be called that.  Try this one:

As you may, or may not know Ian Dury suffred from Polio and after watching a certain film,

He was inspired to create this, which is the original, version, produced by Sly and Robbie, who where famous Reggae artists who also,  produced Grace Jones among many others.

One of my favourite gigs of all time was going to see The Clash and finding that the unannounced support act was Ian Dury & The Blockheads.  That was a fabulous night.

My late father was a celebrity journalist for the New musical express N.M.E a famous but sadly defunct music magazine.

After interviewing Ian Dury they became good  friends, I still have some vague memories of Ian and Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmore who would regularly visit my mum and dad. I was about 3-5 years old at that time.

https://geirmykl.wordpress.com/tag/pete-erskine/

This is why I have such diverse tastes in music, there is no class or genre of music I dislike,  My dad was always reviewing records there was always music playing in the house. Records he didn't like where promptly taken to the back garden and shot with an air rifle. the objective being to try to shoot through the center of the record. I dread to think how many rare and now valuable albums he destroyed. in fact knowing my dad he would have laughed even harder at the thought of shooting an old Beatles album or something! He never really liked the Beatles

The road sign across the way from my childhood home still has dents from where he shot it all those decades ago!

Apparently in the movie Withnail and I, the character Withnail played by Richard E grant is based on my dad. I never knew until very recently and it makes sense

Even some Boney m is cool although at the time I thought it was cr@p for instance Ma Baker, Check out Bobby Farrell's cocaine fueled dance moves

Thank you for sharing this, mate. Appreciated.

And Whitnail is a character indeed - I love that movie much. By your writings, it stayed in the family :teethhappy:
