I think there are some guys on Discord who tried VR, but it wasn't a success I think ...

There might be possible something simpler, head tracker.

There is a command for Free Camera, RMB. And it works with "press the key" option instead of "while holding". Just might be possible.

Nah, it is not. Just tested. You can assign it to "press the key" but then mouse is not working for flying, only for sight seeing. Maybe the joystick guys might have more luck.

Using joystick.

I sometimes use the RMB for looking around and taking screenshots from nice angles  ...

For looking sideways and behind I use the 'hat' switch on the stick, no option for down or up view, just straight.

I think the game does not have this functionality fully implemented, unlike e.g. WarThunder (I've seen videos of people setting VR there; requires some ingenuity, but totally doable). As said, joystick control gives you only fixed angles for viewing, while for mouse you have to either fly or look around.

You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day

I'm all in favour of more camera controls. VR, Track IR ability to edit camera views....multi screen...whatever! Bring it on! (Pretty please?)
