The IM-Spitfire-Marathon was a walk in the park in comparison.
I have expected some rage here?

The only issue indeed is a win condition for the Brits. Can drive you crazy.

Ruskies, kill 300 planes? No problem mate, all is in my hands, I have full control of how I will progress. Same with 300 000 PP for US, again a player has full control.

But wining is not entirely in your hands, often not at all. That brings frustration.

Besides ; we can rage all we want, just like we report bugs, complain about tier X bombers, daily missions, matchmaking etc .... talk to the hand.

[...]

I would call the total amount of battles necessary an issue.

Beaufighter vs Spitfire-Marathon
300 vs 50 planes destroyed
300.000 PP  vs 7.500 XP + 5.000 DMG (separate stages)
30 wins vs ONE win + conquering 5 airfields (separate stages)

Well, just grab your wallet and buy it ...

The Beau V just went up for sale ...  :(

Complete with exclusive (?!) paint scheme, so nothing special about the whole marathon.

Except it's free.

Special enough for me.

I wouldn't call winning 30 battles "free" ... especially under the RNG conditions.

:RNG:

(I know what you mean .. ;) )

So far, 19/22 battles won - admittedly I'm scumbagging it with the Spitfire Ia, but it can been done.  I'm banking on doing it in 45 battles, so I'm ahead of schedule currently.  RNG being what it is, whether I am or not by the time I've got the 30 wins remains to be seen.  The other two missions are just "fly a lot".

Already seen wallet warriors in one - so far I'm not impressed (but wallet warriors rarely impress with their skill, rather with their wallets).

There is one thing I just thought of, and it's sort of worrying. By all accounts the plane was designed long time ago and was just waiting for release. Now... Was it designed before the changes to ordnance affecting speed only? I am suspecting it was. Back when ordnance also lowered agility, the two Beaus would have behaved significantly different. Nowadays, looking at Encyclopaedia, the IM one is slightly faster and more agile. This makes me think WG shot their own foot yet again, with the unforeseen consequences of changing the mechanics, and someone didn't connect the dots yet again. It's entirely possible the premium Beau will be a lot less powerful version of the silver plane, with a negligible difference in agility. And this would be.... sad... All the hype, all the wait, and we might get a plane that differs from the silver line one for the worse. I hope it's not going to be the case, but on the other hand I have seen previous examples of such coincidences (vide my thread on Hurricanes etc). The delay between designing the plane and its release might have effectively 'killed' it, in comparison with the silver (aka 'free') version. We will see soon enough.

Not everyone has the time to go through the long grind. I am thankful to people who put money into the game I like.

Maybe with enough paying customers WG will find motivation to work on 2.2.

30 wins in 37 battles.  I was lucky.  A tip of the hat to APartClassic and Zen, who were gentlemen, though I didn't recognise it at the time, and a big fat raspberry to my clan mate, FlyingDutchman, who was a little piece of something else.

I see myself flying a lot of Javelin and XF-90 in the next two weeks. And maybe finishing the grind for one or two soviet LF.

Heh ... I think I was in that battle. Saw some chat flashing by and it didn't sound positive.

We were roflstomped ... normal occasion for me today, RNGezus is not on my side.

I flew past him spurning easy kill opportunities twice, waggling my wings.  With hindsight, I don't think he saw me the first time, though I mistakenly assumed he had.  The second time he turned round and shot me down - and this when his team were winning easily!

I ruined his game for him after that.  I don't take kindly to that sort of thing.  Bad attitude...

For what it's worth, I support every sentence and conclusion Bug wrote there. I feel the same.

Indeed WG, it's about time.

And to add to that, winning is in large part depending on team buddies - with the influx of newbies it's never guaranteed, and people resort to meta or MM tricks, when there's a win condition attached. Such a 'win' is not joy, it's a chore. Oftentimes accomplished at a cost of newer/less skilled players, who are treated to veterans doing their best to get that win. I can imagine it's not fun at all.

WG, sure someone of you is reading this.

Here you have your most loyal players eloquently and logically and from years and years of experience explaining what's wrong - little stuff, not "bring this back aaargh", no. Easily done things that irritate literally every single person playing this game.

- win condition should be removed in everything. Events, loot distribution after the battle, everywhere. It does not depend on a player. As simple as that. Give us tasks based on personal achievements in the battle and reward accordingly.

- scale down/up Dailies for three tier groups.

- remove low tiers from HoF, so "the experts" will not need to go down to stat-pad. Make it count only from IV.

The game would benefit much, majority of anger will be removed instantly. Let the people enjoy here, not get frustrated with the things they have no control over.

I got a Boomerang from a crate last night /just/ in time for this.  I love my spitfires, but I am more dangerous in a Boomerang than my Spit Ia for some reason.  The plane gods could not have provided me that little beauty any more opportune time.

I was so focused on achieving 30 wins with the required points yesterday I didn't comment on what I thought of this as a mission.  I'm agreement with my esteemed colleagues above.  It's inappropriate to set missions that depend in large measure on your teammates and the bots not sucking.  Bear in mind my record is 29 defeats in a row, with 5 to 10 defeats in a row being quite common, and I'm a fairly good player.  The WoWP team is simply visiting a great deal of frustration on a large number of players when a win condition is specified in a mission.

My advice is simple.  Fly the British aircraft in which you feel most comfortable and try to find a good player with whom to flight up.  This won't always work, as APartClassic and Zen can testify — for instance, they had a particularly gruesome team on "Albion: Trump Card" yesterday —  but it tips the odds a bit in your favour.

Failing that, I suggest short bursts of an hour or two at the game and a liberal dose of good luck!
