Getting a new PC, so wondering if it's worthwhile to get the HD version this time ?

Does it offer anything else besides higher res textures ??

You can always upgrade later I saw by choosing the HD client in GameCenter, you then download about 10GB of textures.

New PC has Intel i5-10400F and Nvidia GTX 1660 Super (6GB GDDR6) and 16GB mem.

Yes, you'll get access to several prototypes not yet introduced to the masses, your plane gets +10% of everything and you'll always be top tier.

SD all the way. No worth taking HD.

Here it didn't make a difference on performance with an i5-2400/GTX760, and it doesn't make a difference with an i5-10400F/GTX1650 Super. So choose whatever you like :)

But does HD at least look better because of the better textures ?

I use HD and it does look nicer.

Still get the same crappy bugs and MM though!

OK, downloaded the HD pack and graphics are now all high or very high. To be honest, my old eyes don't see much of a difference ...

Fps is the same in SD and HD to my surprise. About 160 with clear skies and a bit of horizon and 60-ish when I get up close with scenery and other planes.

It's 2020 for goodness sakes. Why are we asking the question SD or HD at all? The question should be "Should I go HD, 4K or VR?"

(For the record I'm running HD on a 1440 monitor at 144Hz and it runs fine and looks pretty ok.)

Lots of love your friendly neighbourhood video engineer. :-)

WoWP is running on an old engine and, SD or HD, it's beginning to look and feel very dated.

My advice is very simple, if you are going to invest in a new computer, then spend as much as you can afford, in getting an all singing dancing top of the range bespoke PC , with good storage fast speed high Ram top graphic s and sounds thereby getting the most from everything you do and play, don't base you purchase on this game alone, there are others out there with far better graphics so why buy a new PC that won't cope as it will be quite a while after that before you either need to upgrade or get another new one.
