Will there be a Christmas special this year?

By this time last year (one year and one day ago, to be more accurate) the Christmas special for the Yak-7 M-82 had been announced. Though in terms of novelty the event was simply a completely familiar set of missions and not in the same class as, say, the "Skies Of Albion" event or even the "Candy Trail" leading to the then-new British mid- to high tier multiroles of previous Christmasses, it was at least something.
I do hope Monday will see the announcement of something leading to new content. The repeat of last year's "Winter Trials" this year is pretty small beer if that's to be the only Christmas "goody bag".
So, Blindfold, is there to be anything exciting for Christmas this year?

Is it not bad enough we have to read your misplaced rants about free stuff in weekend specials and events but now you're rolling out the whine threads too?
What you should really title this thread is "When free stuff just for playing still isn't good enough for entitled me"

Agree with @RoyalFlyingCorps, I was expected something better regarding what we can see in Warships or Tanks.
For example some regulare T4/T5 or T6 planes to win by mission, with the slot, crew and paint will be nice too, no need to go on premiums everytimes (like in Warships for example)
But here, despite the fact that yes there have thing to wins for free, and thanks for this, but I have to say I'm disappointed. And the next things annouced to come are in January, after holidays for lots of us. With full time job if some marathon appear it will be difficult to be finished without spending some real money .. so not really a X mass gift if you have to 'buy' it.

Hey guys,
Don't talk about nappies please. I still remember the tons of green crap I had to clean from my two kids. Some things are better forgotten.
Back to topic:
- as much as I am grateful and (mildly) motivated to play with the new freebies. They are not really freebies: they are fodder for the players to come back and play and hopefully buy more stuff, or bling-bling for the new players to come and buy (surprise) premiums planes, times, or the other. It does not cost anything for WG to give away stuff -it is (very much) free advertisement on their own platform.
- Now, when I was young (a long time ago), when I developed games in France, we worked on the bloody game for about two years, got it out, fixed it with a patch if needed, and that was it. No extra content, no endless stream of forum threads, events and expectations of new game modes or tools after the release. That was it, done. Now of course, people buy a game and expect the developer to work on it until the company closes or the Big Crunch comes by. Really ? Do companies have to tend to all their products eternally ? How could this make sense economically ? There should not be a team working on a game post-release at full time.
Now, you will tell me, this is a free-to-start game, and the business model is different. Yes. And yes, the other model that Eugen Systems (those French moronic managers' dream) that every game that comes by REPLACES the other game you bought just 18 months before makes me want to vomit. You can play here for free, the amount of grind (even with specialization) is manageable -and the players are rather friendly (Except me who got chat-banned for the fifth time, but it is my fault: who calls his team "moronic" when it indeed is at tier 8 ? Oh wait... me).
Why I am trying to say is that I find that the stuff they give away is still enough for people to enjoy the game. I often see players with 400, 500, 800 or even 1500 hours of play. What other games have this nowadays, with the vast array of choices ? I played Starcraft for 10 years with just Brood-wars coming up 5 years later. Okay, if they want more playing-hours, they may complete the trees (US, European or else). But this will not change the essence of the game, just like the introduction of the B-17s did not. Let's not be like too spoiled.
Either way, I have fun.

Umm, are some people forgetting the month long event that is still counting down in the hanger?
And what about this quote: "It's only the first part of our winter celebration! Follow our updates in January for even more presents."
Last year's Christmas event was virtually Identical, so, looking at the winter trials pt.2 article from last year, it is most likely that the second part will contain things like XP conversion and more of the same from part one. On the subject of a new premium aircraft, if you haven't already, you can get one right now, so it seems unlikely that another will be offered so soon.
Ok, so this event isn't crammed full of new content and big rewards, but surely that can't be a surprise? Until last month, there had been no new content for almost a year, as a result of an admitted cut in funding and development. Then we had Crimson Dawn, not perfect by any means, but in my opinion, just what the doctor ordered. Now, less than a week after the main part of this event finished, I'm sitting on top of my heap gold, credits, free XP, tokens, boosters, pretrained crew, hanger slots, premium aircraft, premium consumables, and premium time that it brought me, (as I know are many others) so to be honest, a change in pace is welcome. If things like this happen to often, they cease to be special.
I know this comes from the perspective of someone who still has lots left to do in this game, so it wont be valid for everyone, and believe me, I would like nothing more than new stuff to be added. Plus, no matter how far fetched or unlikely it is, there are still rumours, that the top tier U.S. bombers waiting for the right time to be introduced, floating around. So like Levlos said, Let's try not to act spoiled.

THIS!
I won so much gold, 5 premium planes, hangar slots and lots of other goodies I thought that Christmas had come early.

Absolutely, and it was a case of Christmas coming early. The Crimson Dawn event is only just over. It was a lengthy event in which offered us something a bit different to the norm and we all got showered with lots of free stuff throughout, just for playing the game which should be an enjoyable thing do since it's a hobby and pastime. Most players got around 40 crates just for casually playing while those that invested a bit more time got anything from 80-100+ crates and of course, the opportunity to get an all new F5F Skyrocket premium aircraft, all for free.
From those crates most players got a hell of a lot of stuff, I personally got a free premium T8 beast of a thing, tons of equipment, gold, premium time, free xp... just about every sort of thing the game has tbh and I've always maintained gratitude for all this stuff, it never was taken for granted or like I was even in any way entitled to a thing. Others kept their crates for conversion and some I've been chatting with now have 6k+ gold and almost a month or more of premium time, good for them and they can probably buy a really nice premium aircraft too, all for free. This is very very generous in any case and not to be criticized like some spoilt little brat that never has enough.
If WG wanted to they could have simply made the Crimson Dawn event some sort of Christmas time event instead and everyone would have been "Yay! Thanks and Happy Christmas WG!!". Would that have made players happy? It was easy to do that. Personally I am much happier that the Crimson Dawn event was not launch over Christmas because I would not be available for several days here and there, as is the case I suspect with most people over the Christmas period such is the way it goes. Now, if the Flying Corpse posted a thread saying he'd have enjoyed more of an effort made at a Christmas atmosphere like an airfield covered in snow and Christmas trees etc, I totally get that but sadly it's not the case. With some people it's just never enough and they're never happy, always whining and looking for more like some entitled spoilt brat. It's a disgusting attitude obviously though I'm hardly surprised and it's what I've come to expect but I thought maybe the Christmas season might have made our resident Ebenezer Scrooge self reflect a little bit and be grateful for all the free stuff and event we literally just had, but no, not in the slightest... just as entitled and humbug as ever.
