played a game tonight  reds had no health  till you hit them  ???

Yes, I get it sometimes - it's a visual bug, usually related to gfx memory; there's a leak in there, after you play for a long time or Alt-Tab a lot, such artifacts like empty health bars show up (or the game simply crashes to desktop). Depending on one's system specs it may occur earlier or more often.
