Good day all. How do I change my aircraft after being shot down during the first or second sortie of a battle? I read that it can be done, but how?
Many thanks!

You have to be destroyed in an aerodrome.

More specifically, your team needs to have ownership of an airbase (the big one that provides repairs) at the point in time when you respawn.

You have the option of changing for a different aircraft in the same tier (no restriction on type or nationality)

Andrew answered it accurately.

This is a very interesting featuring but I'm not entirely sure it's fair. The only reason a player would change their aircraft is to better suit the map or scenario the MM has dealt.

On one hand it's good because MM is just terrible in so so many ways already well documented and murdered at this point along with power-flights, fail-flights and over powered aircraft and mismatches in classes and aircraft etc. So it's nice that there's an option for some of the more experienced and capable players to change an aircraft as to try counter and offset that imbalance.

On the other hand I see it as a "Get out of jail for free" card whereby a player or flight can conveniently change aircraft during a battle they were clearly on their way towards losing and unfairly tilts the balance into a cheap win that person or flight didn't really deserve.

Two such examples I witnessed. I dared to play some non-overpowered T6 aircraft a few days ago, the battle was closely fought and balanced but the enemy team started getting the upper hand about half way through, so I switched to the very balanced XP-54 and mashed them all, the end, GG. Was that fair? nope. The second example was a higher tier battle featuring a flight on the enemy team that were slowly losing until one player switched to a bomber in order to quickly flip those few sectors at a crucial moment and take the win. If the option wasn't there, I lost the first mentioned battle, and that flight loses the second mentioned battle, and in both cases that would have been the fair result.

It needs looking at and I'm not sure what the fairest solution would be.

Thanks to all! So, if I do get shot down over a friendly-owned airfield, will I see some option, such as "Click here to change Aircraft"? - TY.

It doesn’t matter at all where you were shot down.

As Andrew sayed:

An Airbase with repair symbol must be show in blue colour, so that you can chose it for respawn by clicking on its symbol on the minimap which appears beside the team list.

You might need to press TAB Key to show the team list during respawn. I can not verify this right now.

Once clicked, your respawn point changes from the initial one to this airbase. Then on the bottom of the screen a menu opens (similar as the one you use for selecting planes in the hangar) and you can select one among your suitable (tier range must be equal) planes, if you have any.

Thank you for clarifying. I'll know what to do, now... :)

I actually used this yesterday for about the 2nd time in 13K games!

Having tried and failed multiple time to get the 9 fighter kills, I had given up and gone back to getting a few games in the planes I am specialising and, of course, I immediately spawn into a game as top tier with 4 opposition light fighters - I was in a Mustang P51A which has it good points but turn fighting and rapid kills aren't amongst them! Fortunately, we captured an airbase and after dying to the opposition La-5, I jumped into my pimped up A6M5 and completed the mission!

:kamikaze::izmena:

So now I just need to knock out a Gabreski and I'm done!
