Bf109 best plane - he got biggest number of aerial wins in WWII look what Hartmann Barkhorn and Batz did, but also lets not forget that they was the best that german war machine can produce. Great tactician with vision.
P-51 ..... isnt he a beauty?
a good overall plane wich has lack of good pilots, americans win by numbers not by quality.
Spitfire and Hurricane - hats down to RAF and those birds, they make miracles in the air.
Lockheed P-38 Lightning - its like a Ferrari - gorgeous plane....
La-5, La-7, and mostly the great story about Normandy-Nieman and Yak-1 Yak-3 (there is one realy nice book about that - de Geoffre F. Normandie Niemen.) those planes was the backbone of russian aviation (also lets not forget numbers of production).
And last but not least the plane wich i realy realy like and wish to play with - P-39N Aerocobra wich from Pokrishkin memoir's was a hell of a ride

I have a soft spot for the Hawker Typhoon, though it probably won't be competitive in game, due to its inability to cope with altitudes over 20,000 feet (the thick wing meant that it was getting sonic flow separation in the cooler air, limiting its speed at altitude). 4 20mm cannon will shred other planes though. The Westland Whirlwind would also be nice, especially since the cannon fire is quite concentrated. The Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation CA-15 would be lovely for me as an Australian, and it's a plane that would leave a Mustang running out of fuel with its 2,500 mile range on internal fuel. Martin-Baker MB-3, for the Napier Sabre engine in something smaller and lighter than a Typhoon and the 6 20mm cannon, and the MB-5, for the contra-prop and high speed. The last of the Bloch radial engined fighters was impressive (Germans tested it at around 440mph, and this was in 1939-40). Marcel Bloch changed his name to Marcel Dassault after the war. Grumman Skyrocket would be cool.

As long as you like the Me163 having a fuel that can dissolve the pilot, and blow up without much of a warning. Particularly when landing.

Bf-109 Series
The F4U line would be nice. First fighter to break the 400mph barrier. It could also drop it's landing gear at 350+ to use as air breaks on high-angle dives.

Hmm even though Me-262 was a good plane, it had a small service time.

No F4U Corsair? My favorite airplane in ww2 is not in the vote...

Sorry guys, but you're all wrong.
The best plane of WW2 is undoubtedly Douglas C-47 Skytrain/C-53 Skytroop/DC-3 Dakota. Dakota is generally accepted as the best transport aircraft of the era. It distinguished itself in CBI theatre (flying over the Hump and bringing to the Chinese much-needed supplies), in the Pacific, in Europe (eg. in Normandy or after the war in Berlin Airlift). It could carry troops, material, supplies, drop paratroopers, tow gliders. This plane also worked as reconnaissance aircraft. And during Vietnam war it was modified to work as suppression plane (they mounted machine-guns on the left side and then the plane circled around enemy, providing suppresing fire). This aircraft was essential to allied war effort and I'll go as far as to say that it won the war. And by the way, this freaking thing is still flying today.

I Like the 262. I even got to see (and touch the nose of) a real one in the War Museum in Canberra. Took a few good photos of it. Other than that I love the Supermarine Spitfire, the Corsair and the 109 were my faves as a kid.

de Havilland Mosquito without a doubt and specifcly
"Mosquito FB Mk XVIII"
The Mk XVIII was armed with a Molins "6-pounder Class M" cannon: this was a modified QF 6-pounder (57 mm) anti-tank gun fitted with an auto-loader to allow both semi- or fully automatic fire, 25 rounds were carried. also four .303 (7.7 mm) Browning machine guns were retained in the nose and were used to "sight" the main weapon onto the target.
Oh and given the fantasy tanks in wot there was also this variation.
"Despite the preference for rockets, a further development of the idea was carried out using the even larger 32-pounder, a gun based on the QF 3.7 inch AA gun designed for tank use, the airborne version using a novel form of muzzle brake. Developed to prove the feasibility of using such a large weapon in the Mosquito, this installation was not completed until after the war when it was flown and fired in a single aircraft without problems before being scrapped."
Seriously it a frickin flying KV/AMX

I respect the hurricane a lot more cause unlike the spitfire it was around all the battles before 1941 (spitfire in service)and after just as much. the hurricane wasn't replaced at all until ww2 ended.

The Spitfire entered service in 1938. And the Fleet Air Arm were flying Seafires in the Korean War during the early '50s.

For fighters:
P51D - for it's long range and excellent performance. A great escort fighter which made the late war bombing campaigns possible.
Me 262 - an incredible plane ahead of it's time, but it was full of teething problems. Luckily Hitler was an idiot by wanting to convert it to a fighter-bomber and delaying the production by almost a year, had it been available in 43 the war might have gone on even longer.
For Bombers:
B-29 - it was not the workhorse that the B-17 and B-25 was, but from a technial pov an awesome bomber: huge payload, fast, high celiing, hard to intercept. Easily the best bomber of the war.
Honorary mentions: P38, F4U Corsair, FW190.
